What is Organza Fabric?
Organza is a thin, plain-weave sheer fabric with a crisp, stiff hand feel - quite different from the soft sheerness of chiffon. Made from highly twisted yarns (originally silk, now mostly polyester), organza holds its shape and creates volume, making it ideal for structured garments. It has a slight sparkle and is often used for layered skirts, lehenga dupattas, and fashion overlays where structure and volume are required alongside sheerness.

Organza originated in China, with the name likely from the Silk Road trading city of Urgench. Silk organza was historically a luxury fabric in European court fashion. In India, notably Odisha's 'Khandua' organza sarees. Today, Surat produces large volumes of polyester organza for India's bridal and fashion market.

Buying Tips for Organza
Tip 1: Wash testing is critical. Boil a small piece in hot water for 10 minutes - if it shrinks more than 3%, switch to pre-shrunk fabric.
Tip 2: Check the GSM rating before ordering. Heavier GSM means more body and structure, lighter GSM gives more flow.
