All pattern pieces must be cut the same way up, and stripes should be matched at centre-front, side seams and sleeve heads. Allow roughly 15–20% extra fabric over a plain print for matching. What size are the dots?
Fine dot (approx. 14 mm dot) set in columns over a vertical stripe. This is a geometric stripe-and-dot rather than a scattered polka dot, so it carries a stronger, more graphic line down the body of a garment.
How should I lay out and cut this print?
This is a directional vertical stripe, so every pattern piece must be cut the same way up — you cannot turn pieces to save cloth. Match the stripe at centre-front, at the side seams and across the sleeve head. Budget roughly 15–20% more fabric than you would for a plain or non-directional print, which is why the yardage figures on this page are already uplifted.
