Fabric Care Guide for Indian Garment Buyers (2026)

Proper fabric care extends garment life 3-5x and protects investment in expensive wholesale orders. This guide covers care instructions for India's most popular polyester wholesale fabrics.

Universal Care Principles

  1. First 3 washes: cold-water hand wash to set dyes
  2. Use mild detergent (avoid harsh enzymes)
  3. Never bleach polyester fabrics
  4. Iron on reverse side
  5. Store in cool, dry place away from direct sunlight

Care by Fabric Type

Polycrepe

  • Machine wash gentle, cold
  • Iron on low heat
  • Hang or fold for storage
  • Colour-fastness: 50+ washes with proper care

Chiffon

  • Hand wash only — never machine
  • Do not wring; press in towels
  • Line dry in shade
  • Iron on very low heat from reverse
  • Always hang for storage

Georgette

  • Machine wash gentle, cold
  • Do not wring
  • Line dry in shade
  • Iron on low heat from reverse

Satin

  • Machine wash cold, gentle cycle
  • Iron on low heat from reverse side (high heat damages sheen)
  • Hang for storage to prevent creasing

Lurex / Metallic

  • Hand wash only, very gently
  • Never iron the metallic side directly
  • Iron on cool from reverse only
  • Store rolled or hung (never folded — creases damage metallic threads)

Digital Print Fabrics

  • Cold wash to preserve print vibrancy
  • Turn inside out before washing
  • Iron on reverse side to protect print
  • Avoid prolonged sun exposure

Stain Removal Tips

Stain Treatment
Oil/Food Talcum powder to absorb, then mild detergent wash
Ink Cold milk soak 30 min, then mild detergent
Sweat White vinegar + cold water before wash
Makeup Micellar water first, then mild detergent

Storage Best Practices

  • Hang heavy fabrics (satin, lurex, lehengas)
  • Fold lighter fabrics (chiffon, georgette) flat with tissue between layers
  • Use moth-proof storage for long-term
  • Avoid direct sunlight (causes fading even when stored)
  • Indian climate: use silica gel packets in monsoon season
